Pennylane’s philosophy on AI

Pennylane is accelerating its use of AI, not for its own sake, but where it creates real value across the product, engineering, and the wider organization.

Our ambition is to make AI a core part of how Pennylane operates and delivers value, while preserving human understanding, ownership, security, and business impact.

1. AI in the product

AI is not viewed as a standalone product, but as a way to transform accounting work.

The core principle is that AI should be embedded directly into workflows, close to user needs and business logic, rather than isolated in a separate destination or team.

2. AI in engineering

Pennylane encourages engineers to use AI tools such as Claude Code and Cursor as part of their everyday work.

The goal is to make AI-assisted development accessible through practical tools, reusable skills, documentation, training, peer support, and appropriate guardrails. However, AI does not remove human responsibility.

Engineers remain accountable for understanding, reviewing, debugging, and securing AI-generated output. AI can help produce the work, but it cannot own it. It should be treated as an advisor, not an authority.

Pennylane therefore promotes strong AI usage within a controlled and secure environment, supported by approved tools, safety mechanisms, shared practices, monitoring, and review processes.

3. AI across the company

Pennylane’s objective is to make AI a broadly distributed capability, rather than something limited to a small group of experts.

Through training, office hours, documentation, communities, ambassadors, and initiatives such as Atlas, APEX, and Product Workflow, everyone should be able to experiment with AI and gradually integrate it into their work.

The ambition is a “no one left behind” approach, helping employees use AI for planning, writing, investigation, problem-solving, and workflow improvement.
